A wide shape with a soft fall

A sweater works when it gives you room without giving up its shape. This one is cut wide and loose, sits easily over the shoulders and the arms, and falls straight down instead of pulling in at the waist.

Design Highlights

The neckline is cut wide and round and reaches almost to the shoulder, which leaves the neck free and takes a fine chain well. Shoulders are dropped so the seams sit out on the arm rather than on the joint, which is what gives the loose shape its soft line. The knit stays smooth across the body and has enough weight to hang straight rather than cling, and the hem and cuffs are ribbed so the edges hold instead of curling. It falls easily over a trouser or a skirt and keeps its form through a long day rather than stretching out at the elbows.

How to Style It

Over straight jeans and a low boot it reads as the easy layer for a cold day. With wide trousers in a dark tone it turns cleaner and longer in the line. Keep the layers underneath thin so the width stays deliberate, and let the ribbing do the work at the hem.

A loose sweater that keeps its shape and its ease.
